Throughout all the exercises and projects, I would say that it was a really fruitful experience for me. To be honest, I would say that typography was the most challenging module throughout this whole semester. Part of the reasons could be because I am someone who's really insensitive at meticulous and delicate things. Besides, it was really hard for me as I kept feeling like I don't have the sense to come up with something that is expressive and decent. I find it really challenging for type expression especially when we had to express words without using too many graphical elements.
Till now, I still find it amusing at the fact that all those texts in articles, magazines, packaging etc have been put in so many thoughts before publishing while we were doing the type formatting exercises. Also, I find myself started to pay more attention to typefaces and text arrangements in my surroundings. For example, I find myself subconsciously having this habit of arranging texts and making sure that raggings in texts look better before posting an Instagram story now which is pretty weird.
Throughout all the projects and exercises, what I observed and realised the most is the importance of feedback. It was quite frustrating when we were told that our ideas don't work and sometimes I don't get to identify and find much difference at the beginning. However, looking through my progressions from the start till the final outcome, I could now tell that the previous work I've done really doesn't work and really isn't expressive or even making much sense sometimes.
