TASK

On week 4, Mr Vinod briefed us our first project and told us we are required to make an editorial piece of writing. We are allowed to choose an article out of the three articles through. After skimming through the articles, I find the article "A Designers Code of Ethics" the most interesting to me and decided to choose it. This article is about what designers have to go through and the responsibilities they have. After reading the article, I can't help to feel a little pressured and overwhelmed visualising myself going through those dilemmas and hoping to be a good designer that is able to stay true to myself in the future.

At the start of this project,  I started off by searching for some examples of headlines on the internet.

Then I started to think of ideas for the headlines and did some sketches

After choosing the ideas that look decent to me, I went on Adobe Illustrator to create my headline, here are the two headline ideas that I've digitized:

After creating the headline, I went on Indesign to start arranging the pages and margins.

After the feedback, I have decided to change my layout completely because of the changes that I have made on my headline.

After trying out for both white and black colours, I have decided to go for black because I feel like it brings out more contrast in it.

FEEDBACK

For the first feedback for project 1, Mr Vinod said that my headline is not expressing the text meaning. Besides, he also reminded me to take note of the point size, cross and alignment, line length. Lastly, he also mentioned that ragging should be better.

For the second feedback, sir said that my ragging is done nicely and the cross alignments are clearly visible and the layout seems pretty good. He said that the new headline is acceptable but it could be more expressive.

REFLECTION

I found this project really challenging especially the type expression for the headline. I still have some problems on not being able to express the headlines which I struggled the most since exercise 1. For the type formatting, it was not easy as I thought before doing it. Before this, I had no idea all the text that I've seen in magazines and articles actually require so much efforts to plan and arrange them nicely which really awes me till now.
