FINAL REFLECTIONS

Experience:

Throughout these 14 weeks, it was a fruitful journey and I really think I have learned a lot. The feedback given by Mr Vinod and the questions, points that sir outlined during the feedback sessions were actually very helpful to me. By listening to the feedback given, not only to my work but my other classmates, I learned to identify problems, make better judgements and sharpen my observation, having more sensitivity while doing a design.

In my opinion, advanced typography was much more enjoyable compared to typography probably because I'm more familiar with how things work after all the lectures, feedbacks sessions unlike last semester I struggled to figure out how to use the tools in illustrator, photoshop to execute out what I want. Though it was more enjoyable, all the tasks were equally time-consuming to complete, probably because I'm still not skilful enough to make quick, better judgement to execute things out at a faster pace.

Observation:

I have learned and observed so much in this module. But if I were to point out the highlights, it'd be the importance of hierarchy in text, alignments/ flow in typography, the importance of key artwork and things to be noted while creating one. I've also observed that sometimes colours and too many graphical elements could be a distraction that overpowers the key artwork/ hierarchy of text and I should be more careful whenever I start thinking about colours and decorative elements when it comes to creating a design.

Findings:

After these typography modules, I realized that I got much better when it comes to alignments. I remember mentioning how terrible I was to alignments in my typography final reflection last semester. I also find myself enjoying doing the typographic systems exercise the most. Overall in this module, I learned that design requires lots of observation and practice and I definitely need to keep practising and learning to get better at it.
