INSTRUCTIONS

Project 1

For this project, we are required to come up with a design of an instructable poster infographic from video recipes from the Pasta Grannies youtube channel.

After watching some recipes, I finally found the one that I like the most and here is the video that I've chosen:

The reason why I have chosen this particular recipe video of Gioconda and Bartolo is that I am a huge pizza lover and I really like the vibes in it. I like how they pluck their own vegetables and herbs in their own garden and the colours in their kitchen, motifs on the wall and the patterns on their plates are also really pleasant to me as well.

First, I started breaking down the video on my sketchbook roughly to list down the steps and important pieces of information.

Then, I rewatched the video again and take note more on the visual of the making process.

Moving on next, I rewatched the video again and this time, I paid more attention to the small little details in it and also making up a colour palette that looks pleasant to me from the video.

Then, I started going to Pinterest to find some visual inspiration for my infographic poster.

After deciding my visual style, I then started to think and plan the layout of my poster.

I started illustrating my assets and try and arrange them in the layouts I've planned.

Moving on next, I tried to arrange the assets on my layout to get figure out the best composition to place them.

I then added more visual elements and effects such as grid motifs and dropping shadows so that it will look better.

I decided to add on a little old paper texture on my infographic poster and here's the final poster!

Project 2

For project 2, we are required to animate an infographic video of the recipe that we've chosen by using the asset we have illustrated.

To add on some elements that have a representation and the feel of Gioconda and Bartolo's kitchen, I've added some wall motifs found in their kitchen on the background.

First, I went on to adobe illustrator to arrange the composition and separate the layers so that it will be easier for me to animate later on.

Then, I continued with the rest of the compositions before animating them.

Since I have no idea how to animate smoke effects, I've searched for some tutorials.

FEEDBACK

Project 1

27/01/21
Ms Anis said that my direction and breaking down process looks good but she reminded me to make sure all my instructions are clearly illustrated.

01/02/21
Ms Anis commented good illustration for my assets with all the small details and nice layout. However, she advised me not to use cursive fonts for the instructions as it can be hard to read.

05/02/21
Ms Anis commented very well done and reminded me to add the video link on my infographic poster.

Project 2

16/02/21
Ms Anis said that even though it exceeded the time limit it is well done and I must be proud of this work which I'm truly flattered and I really appreciate it. She advised me to keep practising my technical skills and keep track of the latest design trends.

REFLECTION

Project 1

This is by far the favourite assignment I've done so far in BDCM. I personally enjoyed the breaking down process and visualising how to extract elements or feels in the recipe video into my infographic poster. Besides, I also realised that I really enjoy illustrating food especially while illustrating the pizzas.

However, since the style that I'm going for is rigid and requires more attention to the alignments and arrangements for a better composition, I had quite a hard time arranging my assets. I've also tried to apply things that I've learnt in typography class which was the cross alignment and not using more than 3 fonts. Since it's an A3 poster, I've also searched for the minimum point size could be used for the fonts so that my poster will be readable for the audience.

Project 2

At the start of project 2, I was actually lost and it took me some time as I didn't know where to begin with. I realised that it was actually the idea of trying something new and I'm not familiar with that is quite scary to me at first. I was worried thinking about how complicated it would be to animate a recipe video. However, I realised that the difficult part is to break that mindset every time and it is not impossible to do it. In this project, I've learnt that having the will and mindset to try and continue learning rather than worrying that it will not turn out well is important and I'm still working on that.
