For this module, we were also challenged to participate in Maybank Foundation MyTIGER Values Art Competition 2023. Based on our chosen topic, we will need to submit a visual narrative artwork that interprets our own project aim through Maybank TIGER core values of Teamwork, Integrity, Growth, Excellence & Efficiency and Relationship Building.

To begin with this project, I first started my visual research and to get some inspiration. I want the art direction to be 2D, flat with vibrant colours. I also want the the MyTIGER values to be easily understood through visuals.

 

 

I've also decided that I want my artwork to include a foreground view.

After getting my inspiration from the internet, I then proceed to sketch out my ideas. I want the setting of the artwork to be in a forest, and I want a growing young plant to represent Maybank, demonstrating its values through visuals. I also include a tiger in as a guardian of the plant.

Since my previous sketch was quite rough, I refined the base of the sketch a little more so that I can illustrate it easier on illustrator.

After illustrating, I also picked out a colour palette that I like.

I've also look into some visual references to illustrate the human figures in my artwork. Then I proceed to illustrate my base sketches with the colour palette.

After I've completed the base illustration, I decided to explore with colours for my background to bring out the vibe a little bit more. I continued to illustrate other elements that represents to MyTIGER values.

Moving on, I then illustrated some trees and bushes as the foreground. I also illustrates a tiger to be included for the foreground.

I then continued illustrating all the other elements. 

I was about to submit my previous version but it some how feels a little empty and plain. I then decided to add some tiger stripes texture as "shadow".

REFLECTION

Experience:

Throughout the process, I've actually enjoy it quite a lot. Since I took a few months off from University, this project is actually the first illustration I've done in months. I'm glad that I am still able to illustrate without facing any major problems.

Observation:

I actually went on the internet to see that past years artwork. I realised that most of the artwork is quite abstract, in the sense of it's not really showcasing the values of MyTIGER. I understand that art exist in different forms and for the artwork they have created, the message is subtle but I just wanted to try something a little different by creating an artwork that directly communicates the purpose and meaning of the artwork.

Findings:

I realised that the biggest struggle that I have in this task is that I struggle with colours a lot, though I've already picked my colours from a colour palette and adjust it until my liking and suits Maybank's art direction, I still feel like it could be a bit better.
