Project Outline
In this assignment, we are required to design a way-finding system that leads to the vortex lab.
The aim of this project is to enhance the user experience (UX) for visitors at Taylor's University who are trying to find their way to the Vortex Lab. The project entails designing a signage system that is visible and easy to follow.
For this assignment, we are free to use any application to create your Wayfinding design submission. The choice of application is entirely up to us and our personal preference.
Week 4
Next, I've decided to add a mouth to the symbol to make it look more like a human.
After my classmates presented their work, I've learned a lot from them and even though we have the same task, all our outputs were very different and it was interesting to see how everyone of us have came up with different ideas.
This section targets to understand the pain points/ problems, preferences in navaigating to a location and understanding how familiar users are with the Vortex lab and their confidence level to naviagate without assistance.
This week, we were told to divide ourselves into 3 groups, each consisting of 5 students. I was assigned to Group C with Jia Yee, Vernice, Jia Yet & Takuto.
Our task for this week is to come up with a set of interview questions and we had to go around campus to interview people about the vortex lab.
First, my groupmates and I structured our questions according to the 5W1H method.
After that, we divided task among ourselves while interviewing, Takuto and I are in charged of interviewing our users while the rest are in charged in documenting.
We then create a miro board to put in all the information we've gotten during our interviews:
We split the research questions based on 5W1H and the interviewee responses were collected and created 2 sections for the 2 different interviewee for a clearer view for their responses.
Week 5
Public Holiday. No class conducted.
Week 6
Based on the interviews we conducted in week 4, we divided our research into four categories: geographic segmentation, behavioural segmentation, psychographic segmentation, and demographic segmentation.
Besides, my group and I also prepared a set of interview questions to interview our client next week.
Week 7
Our task on Week 7 is to interview our client to understand his needs and design a way-finding system for the Vortex lab.
Because I had covid, I was not able to attend the interview, I've asked Vernice for her help to record the interview. Vernice also updated me about what we need to do for the coming weeks as well. Special thanks to Vernice:)
My group mates then auto transcript the interview and arranged it orderly.
After the interview, I listened to the recorded interview; we then listed down the key points in our interview session.
Week 8 - 10 (Self-directed)
Since we are able to decide the type of way-finding design we would like to create, I've decided to come up with a physical way-finding system. The reason why I wanted to create a physical way-finding system is because our client also mentioned that it would be nice to have lines that guides to the vortex lab.
My idea was to create a simple, easily understood way-finding system guidelines where user can navigate the space physically. Since my specialisation is in graphic design, I also want to redesign the symbol design that has better visual understanding and scaleable so that our client not only will have a way-finding system, but also a symbol design to use across websites and other different platforms.
Before designing the way-finding system, I visited the vortex lab area to identify the routes. I also took some picture to be used for mock up later on.
After some research and sketches, I proceed in illustrating my sketches.
This was the first version of my sketch. However, after illustrating I find the edges a little too sharp.
I then adjusted the head gear part to make it less sharp, however the shape and form still looks unbalanced.
However, it still looks a little off. I decided to thicken the gap between those individual shapes to add more contrast to it.
Looking at my symbol design progress, I think it improved and has better visibility.
I then moved on to finding a typography that would match the art direction and the current vortex lab aesthetics.
I then put the symbol design and the word mark together.
After designing the way finding system, a pdf slides was shown to interviewee and participants to complete the survey about the way-finding system.

Week 10
This week is our presentation proposal week of our individual way-finding project, we were instructed to record a video of us presenting about our work.
Week 11
Since this week we've already completed most of our task, we only discuss about the physical final presentation. In class, I continued working on my blog here.
Week 12
This week, we presented our work at the Vortex lab. This was actually my first time in the Vortex lab.
After my classmates presented their work, I've learned a lot from them and even though we have the same task, all our outputs were very different and it was interesting to see how everyone of us have came up with different ideas.
After the session ended, we shared our learning experience in class and took a group picture together.
Week 13
Section 1: User Demographic Segmentation
After seeing what my classmates have done, I felt that my research part was not strong enough. I told ms that I would like to redo my final project. I first started off creating a set of questions that could potentially lead to more insights and to understand the problems users faced while using the system designed.

The survey is divided into 3 parts.
Before answering the survey questions, participants are told to view the way-finding presentation slides:
This section aims to know more about the user, the data collected will be able to make our survey more cohesive, to relate and analyse the reasoning of their behaviours and psychologic better.
Section 2: User Demographic Segmentation
Section 3: User Psychographic Segmentation
This section targets to understand how user thinks and would react to with the navigation system designed. This section also aims to understand users problem while using the designed system and their suggestions to improve.
After going through all the responses and data, I then analysed it and put it the presentation slides.

FEEDBACK
Sir mentioned that he like the idea of using the lines in a physical space to lead the way. However, he said that he does not think the logo fits the current Vortex lab concept because it looks a little too friendly instead of tech, he also mentioned that Vortex lab has a wide range of function not only just AR and VR. Besides, he also mentioned that the information about Vortex lab might not be suitable to read at the stairway. Overall, he said that the way-finding system does work and he thinks the signage design at the arrival point is simple and direct.
REFLECTION
Experience:
Overall, I think this module was a good learning opportunity for me especially to learn together with people from other specialisations especially from my friends that were from UI/UX. In this project the biggest challenge that I faced was not knowing how to conduct a better research for my design; hence, I redid my work and submitted again before the due date. Lastly, I'm grateful to get to know my classmates and lecturer that are so nice and fun to be around with.
Observation:
I observed that user testing and research is such an important thing in UX Design. It important to understand what problems the users are facing in order to come up with a better design that serves its function to solve user's problems.
Findings:
I realised that there are so many different ways to solve a problem; that all lies in out creativity in approaching it. For example, though my classmates and I all got the same task, our outcomes were really different and it was an interesting experience for me.
