RESEARCH

At the beginning of the task, we did more research about the enterprise on Facebook about the content they post.

I looked through their images for their profile picture and found these pictures, this gave me a direction which is leaning more towards nature friendly feels to help me set the mood for the moodboard.

I also went on Behance and Pinterest to look for some logo design inspiration for plastic recycling:

PROCESS

At the beginning of the process, we wanted the make the moodboard together, but it was a messy process; the rest of our team members are not from graphic design therefore we work very differently, they couldn't understand why am I putting those images in because moodboard for entertainment design are actually elements they use to help them develop the character but the visual style can be very different.

However, I have deleted the previous slides we have done together and here are the moodboards I attempted.

I came up with another moodboard but then I realized that the style doesn't really suit the more local friendly style like we've discussed earlier.

For the typography, I tried to choose google fonts so that the enterprise will still be able to use the fonts by their own after we stopped helping them.

I then came up with another moodboard, I wanted colours that is more local friendly and more similar to EZplast current feels so that existing audience could still have a sense of familiarity with it after the rebrand.

I decided to add in some illustrations because I think the previous moodboard is a little too serious; I was also trying to find a direction so that Jon is able to come up with a mascot easier.

After setting our moodboard, I started to work on the logo.

Since the copywriting in EZplast is very friendly, we thought that a rounded font would be good to bring out the sense of friendliness.

I then started to test out with the logomark.

I also tried exploring different styles to see if which works better.

For brand patterns, I did some exploration by extracting elements from the logomark but it feels a little not suitable for a recycling enterprise.

I then decided to use plastic shreds to come up with a pattern.

I figured it would be better to have a pattern for recycling so I extracted the leaves in the logomark in a recycling form.

I then went on to test out the typography and the hierarchy.

I came up with a simple brand guide so that it will be easier for the rest to work later on.

I decided to change the off white to white instead so that it has more a cleaner, professional look; which is the primary colour of the current EZplast brand.

FEEDBACK

Week 5
We did show ms much progress this week; she said that we have to work faster

Week 6
Raya holiday; no feedback.

Week 7
Ms Lilian said that we did a good job for the ideation and Ms Zazila and Ms Irene are satisfied with the outcomes the ideas we proposed.

Ms Lilian reminded me to test out the logo minimum size.

REFLECTION

Experience:
In this task, our group struggled the most at the part when we all wanted to decide to find the art direction together, since we are all from different specialisation, the way we work is really different and sometimes it's a little tough to explain to each of every member since branding needs strong sense understanding and connecting the dots, meaning, being cohesive. Even tough it can be tiring to keep pointing things out and explain for the work they have done, I'm glad that all of our group mates are appreciative and willing to listen, try to understand and work together

Observation:
I observed that in most recycling brand, most of them have the similar traits. Most of them gives off a clean, minimalist nature vibes since recycling is closely related to nature which then gives me the idea to use nature elements for the brand as well. I initially I thought that it would be confusing if it gives off too much of a nature vibes, and it will be better to have plastic elements in the logo design but I realised it's tough since there are so many type of plastics in general and EZplast only accept specific types of plastic waste; people might also get the wrong idea which is what I need to be careful while deciding the elements present in the logo design. After doing a lot of visual research about logos in plastic recycling, I realised the environment and nature elements can be a solution.

Findings:
I realised that setting the mood in a brand is such an important thing to do at the first place. When we first started, we decided to work on setting the moodboard together. However since most of them couldn't get the idea of it, we spent quite a long time struggling, the exploration for ideation for all of us are not cohesive and we were quite lost. After our discussion about how we want to brand it, I decided it would be better if I just take over and help to tune the mood by creating a simple brand guide to show a rough direction of the brand at least; things then started to get a lot more clearer.
