Final Project Brief


 
Week 12

At the beginning of project, Della and I decided to come up with a brand profile as stated in the brief.  We then started to think and visualize the design style for the brand instead of just the product that we have designed for Project 2.

We decided to brand the ice cream brand according to the keywords provided by our bioscience partner for the previous project.


After the discussion, we then defined the brand's concept and the mood, tone of the brand. 


Beside, we have also brainstormed for the brand's tagline and we decided to go with our last idea.


Moving on next, I decided to do some visual research about how ice cream brands utilize design elements to come up with variation on packaging/ advertising, yet maintaining the consistency of the brand's identity through visuals to get some inspiration on how to create variations of design for ice cream that from different flavors.





After doing some study and analysis according to those ice cream brands, I then came up with 2 other packaging design of different flavors, trying to assimilate the concept with packaging we have designed for project 2.


After discussing with Della, we've came up with a list of merchandise items that we could possibly do for our brand.


After discussing with Della, we've decided to go for cooler bag, water bottle, wet tissues, ice cream scoop and ice cream mug.

I then went on to search for some examples to get some inspirations of free gifts prepared by for example ice cream and cereal brands which is quite relatable to our type of product.

Week 13

Upon receiving feedback from Ms and getting approval from her, we had a second discussion to finalize the ideas to 5. We have decided to choose cooler bag, ice cream scoop, mug, water bottle and wet tissue for the items as we think that these items are useful and would complement well with the offerings of the brand. I then moved on to search for materials for the merchandise mock up items.

For the shape and design of the cooler bag, I've decided to choose the second design as it looks more elegant which gels well better with our brand's concept.





While choosing the type of designs, I have also made some considerations of the type, material and shape of bottle as well. I thought that since our brand has a more elegant look, a stainless steel bottle would be better than plastic to fit our concept. I've decided to choose this design as I think the handles and size would be just nice.





Same goes to ice cream scoop, I've also considered the type of designs and materials as well. I've decided to choose the one with rubber handle so that the grip will be better and more practical.

Week 14 

After our design concept and style in our sketches are decided, I then moved on to create the mock up version of the merchandise items.

FEEDBACK

Week 12
Ms Zettie said that our listed merchandise ideas seems to be useful and suits the product, we just need to decide which are we going to do and proceed

Week 13
Ms said that we should explore more colour schemes instead of just using the chocolate almond ice cream's colour palette.

Week 14
Ms commented that we did well for the merchandise items and the ideas do work and related to the product's usage, we need to still continue working on the rest of the items.


REFLECTIONS

Experience:
Throughout this whole final project, it felt less intense to be compared to the previous collaboration project. Since, the brand concept was already decided last project, we had to assimilate the style and concept; we even tried to come up with different flavors for the packaging so that we are able to visualize the extension of the brand's product, which we thought could help in creating variations of merchandising products.

Observation:
Through the observation and analysis I've done for other ice cream brands, I observed that color palette , design element and style would be the key to ensure consistency, yet breaking the monotony of a product at the same time. Besides, I also observe that merchandise items should also be considered carefully, ensuring that these items would be useful for the buyers at the same time.

Findings:
I realized target audience is also one of the aspect that should not be neglected when it comes to choosing merchandise products. The design concept and style should also be targeting these individuals and more considerations should be made as well to attract these consumers to purchase a product, of feel appreciated and joyous while receiving the merchandise items.
