REFLECTIONS

Experience
Throughout this entire module, my favorite part of the module would be coming up with a logo design based on a brand that we would like to come up with. For this task, Ms Li Lian really encouraged us to generate more ideas and do more explorations which motivates me to try more sketches out. Looking back at all the sketches and processes before arriving to my final logo design, I really think that explorations are so important. To be honest, this semester was a little tough for me and at one point I thought that I won't be able to make it through due to my health conditions. Ms Li Lian is very patient and encouraging which makes me a lot more at ease. I respect and appreciate her efforts for the long hour session with us every week throughout the entire semester.

Observation

In this assignment, I've observed that in all brands that are significant, colour is one of the most important elements when it comes to branding aside from the design of the logo. The colour palette of a brand brings out the overall feels and mood of the brand; making a brand unique and easily identified. I'm glad that I took Ms' advice for the colour palette because otherwise my brand's colour palette would be too monotone and does not really reflect the concept and identity of my ice cream brand. In our logo analysis task, it really got me pay more attention to the small little details on a logo and how the elements are able to bring out a certain feel or mood. I think this process is also important and it has increased my sensitivity towards the nuances when it comes to creating a design.

Findings

Before doing all the tasks, I've learned that logo, colours, typography and images are some of the main elements when it comes to design in a brand through research and watching the recorded lectures, but executing things out actually made me understand better on how to utilize and use these elements for a brand.

I realized that branding is actually a complex process. It needs to have a clear direction, concept and reasonings before the execution of any designs for a brand in order to build a successful brand. I think it is a good learning opportunity because this module is not solely thinking from a designer's standpoint which teaches me how to think more critically, questioning about the reason behind the decisions made. I also learned that it is really important to understand the concept of brand well before creating a logo, to communicate the brand's identity and personality. When it comes to project 2B, I finally understood the reason why Ms kept asking us to brainstorm and mind map about the brand at the beginning. Lastly, this module once again made me realized the importance of typography to bring out the essence of the brand especially while doing the brand guidelines.
