Final Project

In this assignment we are required to create an interactive brand guidelines PDF for on-screen reading purpose. This is a collaborative project with publishing design, so we've started off to work on the layouts on week 9.

Week 9
First I stared off by choosing a grid system out of 3 grid systems and start working on it by testing it out.

After my first attempt, I realised that what I have done is really terrible and have not met the requirement of the module. I decided to rework on by using another grid system and plan the navigation buttons. I then started to create a layout and putting in materials I have which are the logos and the brand's profile.

Week 10

I was feeling very stuck and something just feel off to me. I decided to come up with another grid system and start reworking on it from the start and adding the materials I have, which is the brand's profile and the logos.

Week 11

Upon receiving feedbacks from Mr Vinod, I made a few changes on the hierarchy of information and decided to rework on the layout as well by trying another grid system. 

For my brand's introduction, sir mentioned that it was too predictable so I changed the layouts and I also added more information. I was feeling a little confused because most of the brand guidelines I see from the internet does not have that much information about the brand and all my classmates don't seem to have that much content for brand profile either. I was hesitant on whether I should include all that into my brand guidelines at first.

Since my navigation panel has changed I had to readjust my grid system a little and move all the information down. I then moved on to start working on the layout again.

After getting my layout done, I only started to create the navigation buttons so that I can have a clearer direction. I've explored different types of button effects while making the interactive pdf.

Public Holiday, No feedback given.

Week 12
After showing Ms Li Lian my layouts, she mentioned that the navigation bar is very stiff and does not really bring out the brand's concept; she suggested using my ice cream dripping element for it. She also mentioned that the navigation bar on the top seems to be a little redundant since I already have all the navigation on my table of content page. She suggested to just create a home button would be sufficient. She also mentioned that the navigation doesn't have to be so boring and just words o navigate, I can use the elements I have for my brand for the navigation button.

For my stationary, I showed her some amendments I've made and she agreed that it worked better as well and I should use that in my final compilation.


REFLECTION

Experience 
Throughout the entire project, to be honest I felt really stuck and lost most of the time for the layouts. I kept working on the project but nothing just seem to come up and I was just readjusting which has used up a lot of time; I felt like I was just using all my time inefficiently. 

Observation
Throughout this project, I've look through quite a number of brand guidelines example, I observe that there isn't actually a standard where things should be included except for the important ones that are stated in MIB which I felt quite lost at the beginning. Even though in the MIB stated, we just need to include those information and elements we've had, but I just feel like I should come up with something more since it's a final project. I decided to add more information about the brand in the view of someone that really need to understand the the guidelines to execute designs for the brand.

Findings
Through this project, I realized that it is important to be more decisive and sometimes it would be better to just stop working on the layouts for too long because I felt like all the time would be wasted if I just kept readjusting without a direction. I also realized that having consistency is something really important when it comes to branding when you put everything together; the layout, all the components need the consistency to look coherent. Hence, being decisive and making good decisions are really important when it comes to the use of all the design elements.

I find the rebrand of Julie's biscuit quite interesting. Julie’s has changed their profile picture on their Facebook page with their new logo and it has successfully drawn quite a bit of attention. The change of logo received quite a number of positive reactions by observing the comments written in their Facebook posts. However, there are also netizens mocking that the character Julie in the new logo design has gotten plastic surgery and there are also some netizens questioning why the character has become much younger. Seeing these comments written regarding their new logo design made me realized that people actually pay great attention when it comes to the design of a logo which I find really interesting. Besides, the brand's personality change can also be observed from the packaging, advertisements and also their tone of voice as well which is really interesting as well.
