EXERCISES
Week 1
On the first week of our VSP class, Mr Martin briefed us about the upcoming module information.
Besides, we also have some in-class video editing exercise by using adobe premiere pro. Mr Martin guided us through how to import video clips and arrange, put them together and export them to our selected folder.
He also reminded us that it is important to keep our files organised so that it will be easier to sort and find the files while editing and not get mixed up with other files.

Week 2
For this week class, we started off by watching a video titled, Lalin. We were given a task to edit, cut using in, out point) and stitch video clips using clips that were shot by our seniors while following the storyboard prepared by Mr Martin.

Week 3
This week, we learned about storytelling in film.
Narrative: We make sense of narrative by identifying its events and linking them by causality (cause and effect), time, and space.
Story: The set of all the events in a narrative, both the ones explicitly presented and
those the viewer infers, constitutes the story. (Who & Why)
Plot: Everything visibly and audibly present in the film, and material that is extraneous
to the story world. (What happened? How that happened? When & Where?)
We are then required to watch a short animation that Mr Martin showed us and write a plot segmentation of the video.
Plot Segmentation:
Battlefield (Back thenNarrative): Back in the days
- The king fighting bravely for every battle with no fail
- Fighting scenes
- The king is sad when he took down the last monster
- The king is depressed
- The princess shouts and disturbs him, trying to get a response
- She throws her crown for attention
- The king still wouldn’t budge
- The king walks away
- The princess got an idea when she looked at the stained glass of his father on the battlefield.
- The princess decided to plan something
- The princess blows a horn to gather the knights
- She lost her balance and almost fell
- One of the knights’ helps her to stabilise herself
- She tells them her plan
- The king staring statically, looking depressed
- He hears a loud noise and goes to see what is happening
- He sees a huge monster holding the princess
- He recalls those glory moments he had in the battleground
- He rushes out
- The princess pretends to be taken away by the monster
- The knights are the ones who are pretending to be the monster
- The king fights the monster
- He realises that the monster is fake and feels disappointed
- The princess loses her grip and falls from the top
- The king rushes towards her and saves her
- He puts her down
- His facial expression is stern and the knights were intimidated
- The knights start to push the blame for what they have done
- The king looks at his princess
- He throws her into the sky and hugs her

Week 6
Introduction in audio and colour correction
This week we are required to do an exercise for colour correction.
Week 7
Mr Martin introduced us about the parameter equalizer on adobe audition on this week's lecture. We were given an exercise to adjust the bass, mid tone and treble and adjust it as similar as the original audio using parameter equaliser on adobe audition.
Process:
Week 9
Audio shaping exercise part 1
In this exercise, we learned about the Parameter Equalizer using Adobe Audition. Mr Martin shared one original audio and a few more audios which have been tweaked and we have to adjust the bass, treble and mid-tone to adjust it back as similar as the original audio.
Week 10
This week, we learned about storyboarding, Mr Martin showed us some examples and explained to us the purpose of storyboarding. He mentioned that it is important to have a storyboard so that it shows a clear direction on what is your video going to be about and the way of constructing it out. He then carried on to explain the process of storyboarding.
In this class, we've also learned about the function of "nest", which is too merge frames, clips or audios into one.
Week 12
This week we had a short lecture about 360 video storytelling.
Week 13
For our last lecture, we learned about what a production team is and the roles that are in charged of different aspects of film production.
Frame shooting exercise:
Sir commented that my wide shot is nice but a little overexposed at the side. Besides, he also added that my close upshot is almost there but not enough so I will need to move the camera closer to capture a closer shot. The composition looks good but sir I seemed to look a little tense in my video.
REFLECTION
Week 1
After Mr Martin briefed us about the upcoming modules on our first week of VSP class, I'm actually looking forward to the exercises and modules. After watching the tutorial and getting an idea of how premiere pro works, it actually made me realised that it was a lot easier to use compared to when I tried learning myself last year which made me relieved a bit and I hope I will be more organised when it comes to placement of files.
Week 2
While doing the frame shooting exercise, I kept having trouble remembering the shot size so I actually retook quite a few times to get the right shot. At the beginning of the shooting exercise, I was a little tense as I am not used to filming myself and I did not know what to do but overall I did have fun exploring different shots and tried using a colour preset on premiere pro to edit my video.
Week 3
This week's class was really interesting. We get to learn about what storytelling is and how to be a better storyteller not only by hearing it but also by showing it visually. We got to watch a few interesting video clips that Mr Martin picked out. Some of the videos are really hilarious while there are a few that are quite emotional as well.
Week 4
This week's workload for VSP is really heavy, we had to do 3 exercises and 2 of them are due on the weekend. I find the shooting video not enjoyable because we are required to dance in it and for this reason, I don't think I manage to film my videos the best I could as I really hate dancing and doing it in the public makes it worse. Because of that, I wasn't able to properly film it without being distracted and pay more attention to the frame size while filming instead.
Week 5
This week, we are required to use the ripple edit tool to trim our previous exercises into 30 seconds, excluding the title and the credit line. Besides, we are also required to come up with an idea of what we are going to do for our final project.
Week 6
This week, we learnt about colour correction. I find it fascinating because I've always enjoyed editing images but I've learnt something new which I didn't know before. I learnt that in order to keep the colours consistent, it is better to adjust the exposure, shadow and highlight before start altering the saturation, white balance etc which was one of the mistakes that I've been making all this while.
Week 7
This week we learnt about audio dubbing using parameter equalizer on adobe audition. Mr Martin said that this exercise also helps us to test whether our headphones are working well. However, I do think that I'm not very sensitive when it comes to this as I had to listen to the audio many times, yet, I'm still uncertain that did I adjust it correctly.
Week 8
Study week, no lecture.
