INSTRUCTIONS
Exercise 1
For our first information design exercise, which is the quantify & visualize data exercise, we are required to find and gather objects and categorize them by listing out according to their characteristic or categories and make sure it is able to fit in an A4 size paper.
For this exercise, I've decided to use some of the decorative wooden alphabets that I found at home. First, I started off by arranging them by their alphabets.
Then, I started dividing these wooden alphabets into two categories, which are glitter (G) and pastel (P)
Moving on next I started planning the way to arrange and show information about the alphabets.
Exercise 2
In this exercise, we are required to organize a group of information into a visual poster that combined and utilizes the LATCH principles.
Since I'm not really familiar with pokemons and games, I've decided to come up with something else that I can relate more with. The three ideas that I had in mind was a farm game, Hay Day, food products arrangement in supermarket and also food organisation in the fridge.
After deciding to go for food organisation in the fridge, I started breaking down and sorting elements according to the LATCH principles.
After finish illustrating the assets, I started of by creating a background and text boxes.
FEEDBACK
Exercise 1
Ms Anis said that my exercise is nicely done and the tabling of data is very clear as well.
Exercise 2
Ms Anis suggested that it would be better to add more information about the different locations of fridge and their properties. She also suggested to express clearer the coldness of the different location by telling the audience what does the stars represent.REFLECTIONS
Exercise 1
This is the first exercise for information design and I find it really interesting as we don't have to digitise our work but instead using found objects at home. At the beginning, I struggled a bit deciding what objects to be used, however after looking at many examples from our classmates, I realised that it there are many different approaches to this exercise and it was overall a fun experience for me.
Exercise 2
For the LATCH exercise, I was a bit worried at the beginning as we were given examples of pokemons in the brief but I did not know anything about pokemons, or dinasours or other games. When Ms Anis said we are allowed to choose any theme, I then decided to choose something that is more relatable to me which is organising food in the fridge as I used to cook so organising the fridge was something that I have a better understanding on. In this exercise, I tried something new which is a more 'rounded vectorish' style and I really enjoy the process of building up the assets by using various shapes especially for the food illustrations.
