Project 2
INSTRUCTIONS
For project 2, we are required to create an animated GIF based on a decisive moment in an existing narrative story. For this project, the movies that instantly came in my mind was two of my all-time favourite movies which are Enchanted and Maleficient.
Then I also started planning what are the effects that I want to add in to have a better visual effect.
Then I started off by animating my character followed by the supporting elements such as needle, and spinning wheel.
To create the background, I first drawn a chair so that I will be able to create a pattern effect on it later on.
After that, I added everything that I have done in illustrator and arrange it until I get a composition that is similar to my sketch. In this exercise, I have also tried many different effects that I have never tried before such as inner glow, outer glow, inner shadow etc which I had quite a fun time exploring all the effects. Besides, I have also tried making a smoke effect at the background as well.
After doing some research on the scenes in both of these two movies, I find the finger prickling scene in Maleficient has a strong sense of a decisive moment. I remember being really tensed up watching the movie, hoping that Princess Aurora will not touch the spinning wheel even though I knew that it was going to happen anyway. Hence, I have decided to animate the scene to a GIF for my project 2!
First, I started to sketch out on my sketchbook since the drawing tablet that I have ordered has not arrived yet.
Then, I arrange the chairs in an untidy manner by multiplying them. Then, I match the colour of the chairs to the background and added gaussian blur effect so that it will be able to blend in and will not stand out too much.
After that, I added everything that I have done in illustrator and arrange it until I get a composition that is similar to my sketch. Logline:
When Princess Aurora stepped into a dark room, a spinning wheel appeared out of nowhere. Whispers and murmuring sounds were filled in the room and there’s no one in the entire planet could stop her from being in danger.
FEEDBACK
I texted ms Anis to get some feedback and she told me that it looks okay but the looping is weird, she then suggested making the spinning wheel looking like it is rotating continuously. Besides, she also stated that the movement of the smoke is weird.
REFLECTION
For this project, I was quite puzzled on how to construct my ideas at the beginning especially to create a background. However, after watching the demo showed by Mr Faizal and having some photoshop knowledge for example matching colours, gradient and etc, I slowly get a grasp on how it works. However, this project was actually quite challenging because this is my first time animating a GIF. It was quite frustrating at first as I was very unfamiliar with the software and my GIF didn't look smooth at first.
