Digital Photography & Imaging Exercise (Mr Martin)
Week 1-6
INSTRUCTION
I chose this picture because I really like how the composition of random objects are so well put together and the colours are also aesthetically pleasing.
DPI Photoshop exercise 1- Hearst mansion
In class, sir taught us how to crop out the building using the lasso tool instead of using selection tools like what he did in the recorded lecture.
Then, sir also showed us how different modes like screen mode. He explained that in screen mode, we are able to conceal the black background and this is what the results look like after I tried attempting adding the picture of steam to the teacup. Besides, I have also added some gradient to emphasise on the coffee.
For this exercise, I find it pretty challenging for the hair part while using the masking tool. I had quite a hard time doing while following the lecture and I wasn't satisfied with what I have done for my first attempt. Besides, I did not really like the colour that I have chosen so I have decided to try again after rewatching the recorded lecture for this exercise.
For part 2 of this exercise, I have chosen this picture because I wanted to try a different skin tone compared to what I have done in part 1. Also, I find the hair of the model really cool so I decided to recolour this image of her so that she'd look more bold and badass.
Before class, I have watched the recorded lecture and attempted some additional exercise on my own.

For this exercise, I have learned to use the displace filter by choosing the image psd (black and white and gaussian blurred) for the base picture which is the cloth. Besides, I have also used the gradient tool to add more contrast to the flag.
For this exercise, I have get to exposed to a new filter which is pinch tool. The pinch tool allows the Liverpool image to wrap around and overlap to appear to be in a better form. I find this exercise quite challenging while doing the masking and using modes such as multiply and screen mode and I then realized that I did quite a bad job on the placing proportion and masking as well.

Exercise Part 2:
For the spots, I set the displace to around 7 so that the pattern will not look too distorted and I have also adjusted the pinch tool so that it can appear to be wrapping the body of the deer better. After adding the leopard pattern on the dear's body, I find the original white spots on the deer's body looks a little too much so I decided to try using the spot healing tool and clone tool that Mr Martin taught us today to make the spots less visible.

For the cyborg demo part 2 that sir showed in class, I find it really hard to follow and had to rewatch the lectures and slide a few times after the class ended.
For this GIF, we get to expose to a new tool which is called puppet warp.

INSTRUCTION
Week 1 (Introduction and Briefing)
Today, we had our first class today with Mr Martin and Mr Fauzi. They briefed us about the module information and what we are expected to do for the upcoming assignments. Then, they also showed us some examples of work that have done by students from the previous semester. Besides that, we also played a game called Bezier so that we are able to be more familiar with the pen tool.
For our first task, we were required to explore pictures from the internet and choose 3 of our favourite photoshop images. Besides, we were also told to set up our portfolio and Pinterest board.
3 PHOTOSHOP IMAGES I LIKE THE MOST
The reason why I chose this picture is that I like the colours, composition and how clean and interesting it is at the same time.
I really like this image because it's really imaginative and it somehow gives a feeling of escape in my perspective.
Week 2/ (Week 3)
This week we did not have any lecture as it is a public holiday. So, I watched some recorded lecture that Mr Martin posted on google classroom which is the Hearst mansion exercise. In class, Mr Martin also briefed us on how to use the masking tool and also matching colours to the background or any other images we want to.
Exercise 1 Part 1
Exercise 1 Part 2
Picture of me used in this exercise
For this exercise, sir mentioned that the colour matching and shadows are good but the size of my image is too big. Hence, I have tried redoing and made some changes.
Final Exercise 1
Week 4
For this week's exercise, Mr Martin introduced us to a tool that I've never been exposed to before which is the lasso tool, to trace and cut out the house. For this exercise, we applied what we have learned in the previous lecture and I have also tried using gradient tool to bring out some contrast in the images.
Exercise 2 Part 1.1
Exercise 2 Part 1.2
Original picture of the steam
Exercise 2 Part 1.3
For this picture, Mr Martin showed us how to blend an image with a lighter colour background into another image by using dark mode. In this picture, I increased the brightness of the original image of birds to make the background closer to white colour so that it will be able to blend in better.
Part 2:
Exercise 2 Part 2
For this exercise, I first cut out the sky with the selection tool then I added the picture of the sunset given. Besides, I have also tried using the gradient tool so that it can emphasize more on the sunset in this picture.
Exercise 2 Part 2 After Feedback_01
Final Exercise 2
Week 5
On this week, Mr Martin showed us how recolouring images work. To be honest, I had no idea that we are actually able to recolour a black and white picture into a colour image before this. I find this exercise really fascinating and it somehow just looks like magic to me.
Mr Martin first showed us by using the eyedropper tool to pick some colours for example skin colour and hair colour from other images. Then, he taught us how to use masking tool to recolour the hair and he said that we can also use the brush tool for areas that are easier to trace and recolour.
For this exercise's feedback, sir said that the colour is not matching in my exercise submitted. Hence, I have decided to try doing a few times and I find myself liking the one with pink skies and choosing this to resubmit.
First and Second Attempt
For this exercise, I find it pretty challenging for the hair part while using the masking tool. I had quite a hard time doing while following the lecture and I wasn't satisfied with what I have done for my first attempt. Besides, I did not really like the colour that I have chosen so I have decided to try again after rewatching the recorded lecture for this exercise.
Exercise 3 Part 2
Final Exercise 3
For this exercise's feedback, sir mentioned that it looks good but the shirt part looks too flat and not real. Since this shirt is white and overexposed in the original picture, I have decided to add some cloth texture from what we learnt in week 6.
Week 6
On today's lecture and tutorial, we have learned how to overlap an image on top another but still making it look like 'one'.
Additional Exercise Part 1:
Image of cloth
Image of flag

Exercise 4 Part 1
First attempt for part 2 exercise
For my first attempt, I feel that the leopard skin pattern looks too big and it didn't really match in this image of the deer even though I have tried to make it as small as possible and tried to change it by using the displace and pinch tools. Hence, I have decided to try it with another image.
2nd Attempt :
Original image of baby dear
Leopard skin pattern image
Exercise 4 Part 2 first attempt
Exercise 4 Part 2 second attempt
For this image, I didn't really like the background colour of the original image because I feel like the yellow is standing out too much and it didn't really go well with the deer with spots. Hence, I decided to adjust the saturation a bit so that it looks more pleasant to me and this is the final result of my dear with large spots.
For this exercise, sir's feedback on this exercise is the bottom white part of the dears is supposing without the spots and remain white. He suggested masking out the black spots.

Reflection
Reflection
Experience:
For the overall exercised done, I have learnt so many things about Photoshop that I had no idea at all before this. Especially for blending mode, I really like this tool because I like to add texture and there's always different possible outcome which I find really fascinating. Throughout this exercise, I would say that all the first attempt for each exercise are honestly quite challenging for me personally as you can see that part 1 exercise practice is not that good. However, I really do think that practice helped as I feel like I was doing better for the exercises that we have to submit for grading which is quite helpful.
Observation:
I realised that using Photoshop could bring many different possible outcomes that are unexpected and using Photoshop is not that difficult if we are able to be patient and take the time try attempting even though it could be quite a struggle since we are not very familiar with the program.
Findings:
I found that after learning and doing these exercises in class, I feel like I am now able to create editing works that I think is impressive and fascinating which I used to think it's impossible and complicated for me to do so. I hope that I will be able to gain more photoshop skills and be better at it in future.
